Monday, May 8th, 2023 (post for April 24-May 8th)

This has been my life the past few weeks. This our guest room that we made to rent to travel nurses. But I took it over and now I study here. And the cats live here, apparently.

My final exam is tomorrow for Block I! I will officially be 25% nurse! I mean, I think I will. I have to get a 34% on the exam to pass the block. The lowest test score I’ve had id an 81%, so it should go okay. I need a 64% to get a B. I need a 99% to get an A. Ha!  I had my HESI exam (the Block I exit exam for the state) on Friday. It was brutal. I wasn’t prepared for the way the questioned were presented or worded. That’s the exam I got the 81% on. I was a little disappointed, but I’m trying to be better about my attitude on tests and assignments because I don’t want my kids to think that if they get a B on something they’re failing miserably. So I’m trying to keep in mind what their inner voice will be in the future during school. I want it to be one that is kind and forgiving. I also had my Chemistry mid term last week which I got an 85% on. 100% in my book! That was tough. Turns out chemistry is not as much my thing as I thought it was. I do love chemistry, but it takes me way too long to get all the concepts down.

So pretty much I’ve just been studying the past few weeks for these end of semester tests. But so many things have happened since I wrote last. Where to start. . .

I finished my clinical rotation at Springdale! It was a great experience. I remembered why I got started with all of this in the first place. This is what I wrote on FB. It sums ups my feelings nicely.

________________________________________

With the exception of my final and block I HESI, I am now 25% nurse. Aaaand I decided to leave my job as Cardiac Monitor Tech in Mountain Vista’s ICU.

We did our clinicals this semester at a long term care facility. I got my start in a long term care facility! I volunteered at a nursing home in college for three years. I volunteered in the activities department calling bingo, going on outings, etc. when I sold my business and started working for First Impression Ironworks I felt like I was wandering. I thought I should volunteer again. I liked the nursing home and that population. And for some reason I’ll never understand old people love me. I went to a nursing home nearby to see if I could volunteer, but they weren’t taking volunteers because of Covid (it was May 2020). So I just decided to ask for a job! I said, “Well, I don’t know anything, but I have two hands and a brain: I’m willing to work and I can learn things.” They handed me a name tag and a vitals machine so fast!!!

I decided to leave long term care in May 2021 for acute care experience at Mt Vista Medical Center. I have had a wonderful time there, learned many great things, and have so many mentors that both taught me and looked out for me. In these last few weeks doing clinicals in long term care I have remembered the population that I originally got into this for. Long term care is not an easy job. it’s also looked down on for some reason. It’s looked at as a temporary place to work or a place to get started. Even the instructors at my school had a bad attitude about it saying, “you just have to get through the long term clinicals then you can get to the hospital.” I loved my time in long term care and I loved my clinical experience. My first job was at a facility that was. . . Not awesome. In the last few weeks I’ve been able to get a feel for the environment at this facility and it is wonderful! after we took the pictures below the staffing manager offered me and another girl in my group a job! I accepted. I start next Wednesday!

Long term care is hard on the body so I told them I needed to make enough to cover chiropractic care and regular massages! They definitely came through. They also offered me a “career” as they will help with tuition all the way through the Np program at the university I’m currently at. I’ll get an NP with a geriatric focus from Grand Canyon University.

I Love school and I love work so I’m usually pretty happy wherever I’m at. So it’s possible I’ll fall in love with ten other specialties as I go. But for now, I love the consistency of long term care, developing relationships with patients, and caring for their whole being and not just whatever acute problem is in front of me. It isn’t as cool sounding as ”ICU nurse,” “Nurse Anesthetist” or any other exciting career in nursing. But I know I will feel fulfilled in this area and feel satisfied with my life’s work. I may not have as many cool war stories, but the Florence prisoners at Mt Vista supplied me with enough of those for a lifetime.

Thank you Mt Vista and all the wonderful people there. Back to long term I care I go. And happily so 😊

I am excited to return to Long Term Care. I isn’t an easy job, but it’s a great experience. I really enjoy the deeper connections with patients and caring for them as a whole person, not just whatever their acute ailment is. I start on Wednesday!

AND our bathroom remodel is finally done. I am enjoying it, but I am unhappy about a lot of things our contractor did that just happened out of pure laziness and carelessness. I can’t even write about it because it still is eating me alive. I’m glad it’s done. Since it’s been done I think I’ve used the shower in a different way each time!

ANNNNND We bought Joshua a car with our tax refund money so he can help me while I’m in nursing school. He’ll be driving himself and Miriam home from school from now on. The tinting is so dark that Joshua doesn’t feel comfortable driving it because he can’t see the side view mirrors. So we’re getting that fixed on Friday. We’ll have the tinting removed and have the legal limit tint applied.

We were lucky to find this. This was the kind of car he wanted. He wanted something small yet tall because he’s so tall. It is uncomfortable for him to get in and out of Garren’s little Audi. There really wasn’t much out there. We went to an auction car dealership where they buy all their cars at auctions (the cars have been repossessed). We quickly learned that the type of person that gets a car repossessed is the kind of person that doesn’t care about the condition of their car. We only *tried* to drive three cars. One we only got as far as backing out of the parking space. The steering wheel wouldn’t turn. Then the next one we got in reeked of cigarette smoke, so we got out of there as fast as we could. Then we drove a Kia Soul! The windows didn’t roll down, and the prior owner let kids eat in the back seat. There were stains and juice and soda pop syrup everywhere in the back. It was designating. Then Joshua drove it around and it wouldn’t go faster than 40 mph! That was with the pedal on the floor! So we decided this wasn’t the type of place we wanted to buy a car for our child. He said he really like the Kia Soul though. So we went to a Kia dealership. The only cars they had even remotely near our price range was a Mitsubishi Lancer and . . .  A KIA SOUL! It was just meant to be, I guess. So we drove the Soul and Josh was like “YES” instantly, but he also said, “Now, let’s go look at other stuff.” We were like ??? He said he’d feel more confident about his decision if he drove other stuff. So we went to other car dealerships nearby and they really had nothing. One thing was in our price range but they said they fixing some safety stuff on it and we couldn’t test drive it. So we went back to dealership and drove the lancer so he could make sure he didn’t want something a little smaller. He drove the lancer and said, “Yep. Let’s get the Suol.” He loves it! (Except the tinting). He is not very excited to drive though. He is very apprehensive. He’s going to take it very slowly. he’ll drive to school twice this week. But he’s going to drive my car until we get the tinting fixed. We had him go out and drive around the neighborhood by himself yesterday so he could get that “first time” out of the way. So driving to school this week will really be his first time driving without us. He’d rather not, but it’s time to kick him out the nest. . .  Out of his comfort zone. I am excited for him. I think this will be an experience he will come to enjoy. Next up for him is applying for jobs!

In other news, I contacted my former therapist from Virginia. I was hoping she would do virtual appointments after Covid. We’ll see what she says. I saw her for OCD as a result of EDS and grief as a result of what I went through with Garren’s sister’s and my business. I saw her for four years! She was amazing. I tried to find a therapist out here when we moved here, but no one measured up. So I gave up. I’m hoping to connect with her again so she can help me process some of the stuff I went through in Covid and deal more with some OCD stuff. I think I’ll perform better as a nurse if I can really get a hold of this stuff.

Well, this semester was brutal and I’m glad for it to be over. I’ll be working full time at Springdale over the summer and hopefully into the fall. I miss my old doctors and I hope they will be approved under my new insurance. They were familiar with all my pre cancer stuff and were monitoring me every three months. I really didn’t want to start that over again with someone new. So I’m working full time just to qualify for the insurance that will let me see that doctor again! It’s probably crazy and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle that, but I hope I can. Oh, I probably haven’t talked about the pre-cancer on here yet. I have cancer markers for B-Cell Lymphoma—a blood cancer. I was being monitored every 6 months for it, but mid last year they bumped it up to every 3 months because, “when it hits it’s going to be bad.” But I haven’t been since December!! So I really need to get back there. I’ll go into more detail about how they found it all later. This post is already long enough.

Back to studying for the final! For real, though, I’ll probably just sit on the couch and watch Supernatural with Miriam. I introduced her to the show this weekend and she likes it!

Here are the pets being pets. . .  just for fun!

April 24, 2023 (Post for week April 16-23)

Our bathroom renovation is finally done on Frank’s end. Thank goodness—he was destroying my house. My carpet is ruined and I have to repaint a lot of areas, my new toilet is all grubby because he put his grout and calking stuff all over it. . .  He just wasn’t very careful or thoughtful in how he did things. So he destroyed a lot of other stuff in the process to the point of being unfixable. That is so frustrating to me! So the picture I posted last week is pretty much where we are at with the bathroom. Glass should be installed Wednesday. The entry way is finally done and looks nice. We will put this same tile in the front of the house leading up to the garage and in the back of the house from the back door to the grill.

We added the pop outs around the new window so it will look like the rest of the house. I don’t know when we’ll ever get around to painting, but I am confident the HOA will let us know when we have taken too long.

In other events, Miriam had a dance show last week. She said she didn’t like it all and won’t be continuing. Fine by me. She does like synchro so at least she has something she enjoys. I enjoyed watching her dance, though. It was fun!

I had a test on Thursday and it was my worst one yet!!! I got an 82%! I’m so disappointed. It brought my total grade into the B range. I have to get a 96% on my final to finish the class with an A. I’m so bummed. I think I just got comfortable because I did well on all the other exams. I don’t know. . . I have no excuses, I guess. Just wasn’t my day.

I had clinical on Friday. Nothing new there. I think I’ve seen all long term care has to offer from the nurse’s point of view. Doing this clinical made me remember why I went into long term care. It’s definitely not easy, but it is so rewarding. The connections you make with the residents and seeing the same people day after day. . . It’s just different from the hospital and it’s nice to know who you are helping on a personal level.

My garden is growing really well! But the murderous heat is coming, so everything will probably die soon.

Joshua picked out the flowers that I have divining the garden in four different spots. Can’t wait ‘til they bloom! Lillies and Dalias.

I took Joshua shopping on Saturday for new clothes for his DC trip because he looks homeless. . . .I got him a new suit, new dress shoes, nice clothes to wear in DC and also to job interviews since he’ll be doing that soon. I pent WAY too much money, but that’s why I worked those four nights in a row a few weeks ago. Then Garren helped him pick out a car yesterday. They’re going to go buy a car in a week or two. Exciting time for him!!

Well, that’s all for this week. I’m going to be spending a disproportionate amount of time studying this week. I feel like I have balanced my life pretty well this semester. I haven’t had a breakdown yet because of feeling like all I do is school work. But this week and next I’m going to hit the books hard. I really want an A! So I’m going to buckle down and study study study! I don’t work again until next Thursday, so this should be do-able.

TTFN!

Monday April 17th, 2023 (post for week April 10-16)

Last week was Joshua’s 16th birthday on Saturday. We took him to Hangar Cafe for brunch. It’s on the tarmac of Chandler airport. He wants to be a pilot so that was fitting. In the evening we tried to go bowling but they didn’t have a lane for us—long wait. So we decided to go goofy golfing at Golfland instead. Then we got home and did cake and presents. We got him a nice tripod for his camera. We are also getting him a car, but he is sooo not excited to drive, so the car was more of a present for me. On Sunday he started driving school with an ADOT instructor. He said she helped him feel more confident with driving. He will have four more lessons then take his driving test with her.

Finally making progress in the bathroom.

The front entry way is looking great! Sugar walked on it while it was drying, so he had to redo some of it. We kicked her out for a bit after that. Poor baby.

This is where the bathroom stands currently. I hope it is fully functioning by the end of next week! I am so tired of this!!

Miriam’s art was selected to be “put on the wall” at school! She is very talented! And I’m just going to go ahead and accept credit for that :)

As far as school goes, everything is going well. I have an exam on Thursday on Cardiac, Oxygenation, and Nutrition—random! Then we have to make a medication commercial. I’m more stressed about that than I am the exam. Stupid group projects. . . Clinical was good last week, not nearly as dramatic as the week before. So really, kind of an uneventful week other than Joshua’s birthday. That was the highlight! I had a video from his birthday to upload, but again, I’m not savvy. So here we are.

Just for fun, here’s a picture of Joshua right after he got his learner’s permit.
And a picture of him crashing a car when he was about 5 or 6. :)

This was at my Grandma Ida’s house in Mesa, Az. Probably 2011 or 2012.

Post for week of April 2-8, 2023, closing a chapter in my life that has taken 12 years to overcome.

I am late on this post for a few reason. The first is that I worked on four night in a row last week and still like I am catching up from that. The second is that something transpired that may seem insignificant to most, but was, in fact, quite significant to me and I am still processing some of it. In fact, this post may not happen all in once sitting as I am still reflecting on events. Before I get to that, though, I’ll catch you up on some other events.

Our bathroom renovation was at a complete stand still because our reno guy said his truck was broken and blabbidy blah. So anyway, he finally showed up on Saturday the 7th after not having been here for about 16 days!! We had a Come to Jesus with him and got squared away so we are on the page now.

This is the shower grouted. It looks lovely. Just wish it weren’t taking so long. I think I said variations of a statement involving the words “burn it down” at least once a day in that two weeks he wasn’t here. I am very affected by my environment and I can’t function in other areas of my life if things are in disarray.

On Friday of last week I was at clinical at the long term care facility, Springdale Village. I struggle with wounds and wound care ever since I had to help my mom with hers. My mom had a chest tube in 2019. When it was removed it had to be packed. The home health care nurse was teaching me how to do it, buuuuuut something about looking inside of my mother was unsettling and I have not recovered since! So I wanted to make a point to follow the wound care nurse so I could overcome that. Well, I got what I wished for! She had me pack a stage IV pressure wound. I thought I was going to pass out, so I had to take a break afterwards. Then she told me to meet her in this other room with another student. So we went there. She prepped us for this patient by saying, “This is stuff wound care nurses ‘get off’ on.” I felt my blood pressure and heart rate sky rocket! We went in. Patient was young, looked fine. They pulled back the blanket and began removing patches. And that’s when I saw all the necrotic tissue, and. . .  87 staples. PT had just had their legs amputated and I was about to remove the staples. I helped debried the wound as well and that was a horrific experience (to me). I could feel the skin coming away as I turned the gauze in a circular motion. I felt the blood leaving my head. The wound nurse said, “I’m not going to let you end up on the floor!” The patient was really good too, very kind, said, “I’m okay, I don’t feel too much of it. It’s a learning experience.” Very helpful and knew I was wanting to learn. We were in there for about 45 minutes to an hour doing all of that. I had to take a 30 minute break after that one. I felt ill. I don’t think I fully recovered until the next day. That pt ended up being the patient I did my head to toe assessment on as well. I can’t share their story here, but I sobbed when I walked out of their room. It was basically my sister’s story, except my sister died.  Very heavy day for me.

Anyway, now on to the meat and potatoes of what happened last week that was significant. But first to break up this long post that has no pictures since I really didn’t take very many, today’s post is brought to you by Sugar thinking she’s a lap dog.

So, it’s been half a day since I started writing this. I was debating on whether or not to give this anymore of my life because I actually finally feel ready to stop talking about it after 12 years. But no single act in my life has affected me as much as this one did. I still think about it every day. When I walk past my sewing machines in the loft I think about it. When I look at my children I think about it because I think about what I could have been for them if I weren’t so affected by this. When I’m with my husband I think about it because it was his family. Even at school today I thought about it because we were talking about alternative forms of therapy. Someone was talking about cognitive behavior therapy, which I did for four years and thought about why I went in the first place. . .  So many things in my life tie back to this event and I am finally ready to close this door.

My husband is the executor on his mom’s estate. He gets to make all the final decision on anything money related. His mom trusted him with that responsibility, and rightly so. He is doing it very well and handling things well emotionally considering he has to think about this every single day and be reminded that his mom is gone every single day. I also feel for him on a certain level. When I got bonus money for working in Covid there was a weird psychology that came with it that is difficult to explain. I wasn’t sure how to spend the money because I couldn’t imagine buying something with money earned while watching people die. I thought, if I bought something with it I would just think about those dying people every time I used it or looked at whatever I bought. I imagine he’s going through something similar. It’s nice that she left an inheritance, but it’s like, what am I supposed to do with this? What can I do with this that won’t remind me that my mom is dead? So, all of those things considered, I think he is doing an excellent job. He literally has to do something on it every single day. So much of his time is devoted to this estate and making sure he does right by his mom and by his siblings.

He had to sell his mom’s house. His sister (one that used to work for me) has been fighting and arguing with him about his choices from day 1. She suggested to the family that they should all have a say in what happens to the house, but ultimately, it is Garren’s decision. And he is making good decisions. She continues to argue with him, having such a blatant disrespect for his role in all of this. She also did this with another sister who had power of attorney over her medical decisions. She fought with her on that too completely disrespecting the fact that it was her role. Not only was it her role, but she is a respected DNP and was going to make the right choice by her mother and this sister completely disrespected that which I am confident compounded the grief the nurse sister was already experiencing in having to make those medical decisions. (For reference, Garren’s mom was experiencing kidney problems and they gave the option to inject dye and have a scan done to see if the problem was treatable, but that comes with other issues. If kidneys are failing dye only compounds that. So she opted not to do that. Which was the right decision. I actually just read about it two days ago!
I never doubted her for one second as she is very knowledgeable in these areas, but this made me even more confident. Garren was reading me text messages from his other sister about the situation. She told Garren she was starting to act like the nurse sister with all the power and she didn’t like that. But the bottom line is that Garren’s mom put these people in place for a reason. They know what they are doing and they are knowledgeable in these areas. The text messages suggested that this sister thinks part of their mom’s decline was due to the other sister’s medical decisions. But she absolutely made the right choices. The blatant lack for respect for these people who are extremely knowledgeable in these areas is so hurtful and says a lot about her).

Anyway, moving on. So Garren was really struggling with this because he didn’t know how to explain to her or how to get it through to her that he was doing the best thing. It’s like she couldn’t be convinced that he was making the right decisions for everyone involved. She wanted it all done her way and if it wasn’t done her way she would throw a massive tantrum. She did just that and left their family group chat and hasn’t talked to Garren in over a week. When she and I went through this in 2011 it was similar. She would ask me over and over, “Can you explain to me again how you pay us?” Like she didn’t trust me. And I would explain to her each time. She didn’t like it and it’s not how she would have done it if she were in charge. But she wasn’t in charge, I was. And she had no respect for that. When I would inquire about orders on behalf of customers who would write me for updates on their orders she would say I was “annoying” her. I paid them in advance for orders, thousands of dollars between her and the other sister I had hired. They didn’t like how I was handling them and the business so they quit without completing their orders that they were already paid for and during our busy season. They knowingly left me with three people’s worth of work ON MY BIRTHDAY no less. She threw a massive tantrum and quit the business because she didn’t like the way I was doing things. I can’t tell you how awful it felt to open my front door and see all the packages on my doorstep of unfinished orders and supplies I had stocked them to work. Even now, it hurts to recall. How hateful. I trusted them and they betrayed that. They couldn’t work through their feelings. They did that to me to punitive. If they were professional they would have finished the work they were paid to do or returned the funds to me. But they punished me instead by throwing a massive temper tantrum. And to add insult to injury, one of them cut all their orders wrong, so I had to replace thousands of dollars in expensive fabrics adding to the money they cost me. And they didn’t care at all. They didn’t care about anything but themselves. And they had no respect for me as a business owner. They were both struggling at the time to make ends meet and I saw this as an opportunity to help. I also thought this was something we could do together as I so desperately wanted them to treat me like a sister and I wanted to be one of them. I thought this was an opportunity to finally become a member of the family. And one of them in particular was very talented on the sewing machine and I thought we could really create something special. But she only thought about herself and how she benefited from the business, not what she could contribute to it. She just took took took and never contributed. She took until that last minute when she finally sent back unfinished orders and kept the funds for them. Take take take and never thought about how that might make feel or affect me. So selfish. They never thought about how their actions might affect my family or the business. The most selfish thing I have ever had happen to me in my life.

This has created a rift between Garren and I because I think he always saw it as a “sibling tiff” and couldn’t understand why I was so affected by it. But this past week he finally saw it for himself. He has had sibling tiffs with this sister in the past, but never a disagreement where the issue was that he was in a place of authority and she had to yield to that. She is unyielding and disrespectful to that role he is in. And she is not thinking about what he is experiencing right now in this role. And that’s so selfish and just plain stupid because he is so knowledgeable in this area, just as I was knowledgeable in the area of business and knew what I was doing. She always questioned me and what I was doing in the business, but by that time she had had several failed business attempts. I clearly knew what I was doing and she had no respect for that. She just wanted more more more and wouldn’t accept the fact that I knew better as a successful business owner. And now, Garren knows better, he knows more than she does in this area, and she won’t accept that for some reason. She won’t let Garren do what he was asked to do by his mother because she has no respect for authority. So she blew up, had a tantrum, left the family chat and Garren was confused by that. He was talking to me about it and I got to explain to him that it feels different this time because it isn't a "sibling tiff." It's a blatant disrespect of authority and that is on a different level than a sibling tiff. Then I followed up and said, "This is why it affected me so much when she did this to me years ago. If it was a tiff between siblings I could forgive that. But it was a disrespect against my authority as her superior in the business. And when you trust someone with something valuable like work and they betray you in that way, it hurts on a different level than just siblings disagreeing. She is disrespecting you right now as a person with knowledge and authority,  a professional in this area. and that cuts you in a different way than when you just disagree with her as her brother." AND THE LOOK ON HIS FACE!! It's like he finally understood me!! I think part of the reason this hurt so bad is *because* of how Garren saw it. I wanted him so badly to understand and he couldn't. And that compounded how I responded to the whole event. It compounded all the things I had already felt because I knew he was looking at me and thinking, why can't she just get over it? But now he has been disrespected by someone he loves, someone who should know better, someone who is old enough and mentally capable of understanding that he knows what he's doing and needs to trust him. And she has disrespected that and basically told him she doesn't trust him and doesn't believe he is doing right by them. And that hurts Garren in a way that can't be easily repaired. And now he finally understands why I can't be repaired by what happened to me with his sisters! He finally understands that I was wounded by people who had the mental capacity to know and understand how they choices were going to affect me and did it anyway. People who should have cared about how I felt, and they didn't give a flying f%&*. People who should have encouraged, supported and built me up instead tore me down, stomped on me, and just wondered how else they could benefit, how much more they could take from me and from the business. All that time I thought we'd work and build something together, but they just wanted to take. They knew what they were doing, they were capable of understanding what affects their choices would have on me and my business and they did it anyway. A complete betrayal and lack of respect for a business owner. I bet they wouldn't do anything like that to the people they work for now, so why me??? Why did they do it to me? Someone they should have cared about. So hateful. Such a terrible thing they did to me. And now she is behaving similarly with Garren. And all I can think is, *sigh* finally! He finally feels what it's like to disrespected by someone who should care more about you than they are. Someone who should be more concerned about his feelings during this hard time than about being right. It is in their family, though, for some reason. Often when Garren and I are arguing I have to ask him, "Is this really the hill you want to die on? Is it really more important to you that you be right than how I feel? Because if being right is more important to you than me then I need to leave this marriage." And I would really like to ask his sister that. Is being right or having everything go your way more important than your relationship with your brother? Just let him do his job even if you wouldn't do it that way. It's not worth it.

That was the other aspect of the situation with my business that hurt me so badly. I knew where I stood with them. I was not more important to them than their being right. It was more important to them to make a statement, make known to me that I was doing the business wrong, or treating them wrong or whatever it even was. Whatever it was, that was more important to them than to have me as a sister. And that is why I struggle to this day. I know where I stand with them. I know they don't think of me as a sister even though that is all I ever wanted. I know they'd rather "be right" than be my sister. Their feelings of being right are more important to them than how I feel as a result of their actions. I can't even explain in words how it feels to have to be in a room with them when you know that when it comes to a disagreement they will choose themselves every time over a relationship with me. And now Garren knows what that feels like. She would rather not have a relationship with him than yield to his authority. And now Garren knows how awful that feels. So I finally feel like I can close this door.

I had never had anyone treat me so poorly in my life to that point. I had never experience such active hatred. I didn’t know how to deal with what I was feeling. I tried to cry out for help. I often posted about how I was feeling and what I was experiencing on Facebook. I didn’t want to feel this alone. I didn’t want to bear the weight of their hateful actions alone. So I often spoke of it publicly and not kindly. This was wrong and it affected my relationship with Garren. Even ‘til recently I always questioned how he really felt about me, if he really loved me knowing I was capable of saying such terrible things for something that he saw as an event that I *should* be able to just “get over.” That affected us in a way that may not ever be able to be fully repaired. I can only hold myself responsible though I would love to hold them responsible. I’d also like to send them the ER bill for the night I thought I was having a stroke after dealing with their actions. . . But I digress. I have carried the guilt of my actions in response to theirs all this time. But now Garren knows how uncomfortable it feels to be judged so harshly by someone who should care and respect your position. Now I know he understands why I felt wounded. He knows now that I as in fact wounded by people who should have been the ones on my side, the ones to repair me when wounded by outsiders. But I was the outsider and they wounded me. And I will bear that scar forever and remember that to them I am not someone they can uplift, encourage, and love. To them I am a target they can wound irreparably and never take responsibility for. . . Never take accountability for the repercussions of their heinous actions. The most I’ve ever received was, “Things were done wrong on both sides.” And that’s not okay. That’s not enough. So I know where I stand. I’m not important enough to them to apologize to. I’m not important enough to them to make things right. I’m not important enough to them to keep a relationship with over whatever they didn’t like about my business managing. I’m not important to them. And that hurts. They were always very important to me. Important enough to share my business with. I valued them. I loved them. I shared with them. And all they did was consume me and my resources. Because I’m not important them. Nothing hurts worse than sharing your love and having someone stomp all over that. It will always hurt. I see that hate in them every time we are together.

I may refer to this from time to time in the future just because it was such a significant even in my life and changed me forever. But I think I'm finally ready to stop trying to "process it" or dwell on it. If I refer to it in the future it will purely be so my kids can understand just how awful this has been and know not to every *EVER* choose themselves over someone else's feelings. I hope my children will always think about how they can add to and contribute to something they are apart of and not think about what they can consume from it. I hope they will always think about how their actions might make others feel. I hope they will make choices and say things to others that encourage and uplift, not harm and punish.

Ultimately, I am grateful for this experience because I did have to do a lot to overcome it that bled into other areas of my life. I think the culmination for all the therapy and trying to understand and make the puzzle pieces fit together made me a better person, a more compationate person. It helped me recognize suffering in others and how to be empathetic to that. And I think that is going to make me an excellent nurse. So in the end, I would just just like to flip them the bird and also thank them for making me a great nurse! I am going to go on to be a successful professional now 12 years after the incident. I have become wildly successful in both my business and my pursuit in the medical field. And that business they said I wasn't running well and criticized me for was sold in 2019 and is still running strong!! And is funding my education for my next career! So thank you for making me a better person. I wish I didn't have to experience pain on a daily basis because of it, but it is what it is. It has made me better and will continue to make me better. So middle fingers to you, I have to go back to be successful now. Bye bye.

Tuesday April 4th, 2023

A little late this week. I’m working my fourth shift in a row tonight! Our two full time monitor techs both took time off this week! So I’m trying to fill in where I can. Since I took a big test last week and felt like things were light, I decided to pick up.

I spent most of last week obsessing over my electrolytes exam. So I didn’t live much life. But it paid off. I got a 46/50. I was fine with that because I got all the electrolytes questions right. I spent so much time on those I forgot to think about sleep and grief, the other aspects of the test. I don’t feel like I need to need to every detail about stage 3 sleep to be a good nurse. But maybe I’m wrong!

You won’t believe it, but we are going on day 13 of our renovation guy not coming to our house to finish the job. Car broke down, blah blah blah. . . I was like, so you know when my care breaks down, I still have to figure out a way to show up to work!! Weird concept for some people, I guess. . . . Then he called Garren today to ask him for another payment!!!! I laughed so hard I nearly messed myself! I am past feeling about this. I don’t care how long it takes he isn’t getting another dime out of me until the job is done. And then I never want to see him again!

So I picked up shifts Saturday, Sunday, Monday and tonight. I don’t know what is going on with our hospital but they aren’t taking care of the grounds and I think they didn’t pay for trash pick up because the trash is piling up outside by cardiology and it isn’t being picked up. And we are always in crisis mode. I won’t be the least bit surprised if we close down soon or something like that. Our property is overgrown with weeds, trees down in the parking lot, and no one is doing anything about it! So if we can’t pay to have the grounds kept up then I don’t even want to know what other problems are happening. I tried to look at the bright side of it though. We have weeds growing the cracks in the asphalt, even!
We have much bigger ones that’s this. But this was the one nearest me when I thought to take a picture. They are growing in some places over a foot tall out of the asphalt! When trying to look at the bright side I thought, nature always finds a way. Then I saw the weeds a little differently.

Anyway, that’s all for this week. Unless you want to hear about 2nd degree heart blocks and Vtach, which has been my life for the past few days. Snooze. . . . .

This week’s post is brought to you by Miriam sitting in Sugar’s lap instead.

Monday, March 27th, 2023

Today would have been my Mother in law’s 73rd birthday. Every once in a while I catch myself thinking, “Wow. She’s really gone.” I think I’ve processed it, but then I have those moments where I think, “Wait. This is real.” I miss her very much and I hope she knows how much I loved her.

Last week was very busy. Lots going on. Monday we had a fake simulation at school. It was nice because we got to try out all the skills we had learned with no consequences. It was good to do that in a calm, relaxed environment first before going into the real clinical setting. It’s okay to kill a mannequin when you’re trying out new things, but not a real person. ;) Monday night I worked. I worked with a bunch of people I had never met before. I realized eventually that they were probably all from a staffing agency and not core staff which means. . .  our hospital is in rough shape where staff is concerned. What else is new???

Tuesday, I slept most of the day because I worked the night before. When I woke up I was met with this unfortunate display of pure idiocy.

Like!!! Did you think I wouldn’t notice???? THEN he made US buy new tile to fix it! So I told Garren I can’t communicate with him anymore. Garren has to do all the communicating. He only came once last week and it was to fix his errors. I’m beyond angry at this moment. He is taking so long to do this project.

Wednesday we had my grandpa’s funeral. It was nice. It was also kind of strange. We didn’t have a great relationship with him. When I was young I remember him calling my dad a few times and saying, “We’ve been in Arizona for a week and are leaving tomorrow. Wanted to see if you wanted to get together for dinner.” I remember even as a little child thinking that was a little strange that he’d been there all week and only just now calling us. Or he’d bring all us girls presents and tell Neal that the store they went to didn’t have anything for boys. So some of his family was there from his second wife. He adopted her kids. And the kids and grandkids of his third wife. So the second wife’s kids came up to me and were telling me how he was more of a father to them than their real father. And one of his third wife’s grandchildren came up to me, Miriam and my two nieces and said, “What’s your relationship to Poppie?” In my head I was thinking, “Who the hell is  Poppie?” My niece said, “I think I met him once at a party last year.” Miriam said, “I made a puzzle with him once.” And I explained that we didn’t really have a relationship. She said, “Oh. They raised me. I lived with them basically my whole life.” I said, “I’m glad you had a good experience with him.” My grandpa wasn’t a bad guy and I don’t think he was abandoning us or my dad. I think he probably just thought we were okay because we had my Grandma Joyce and her husband, Bob. And I think he thought Bob was to us what he was trying to be for this other wive’s children and grandchildren. And that’s okay because Bob really was great to us. I do have a connection to Grandpa Bob. He was great! It’s all okay. It is what it is.

These pictures didn’t come through in order and I’m not going to organize them.

Dad spoke at the grave side.

This is my funeral dress. I wore it to Cyndie’s wedding too. It’s very cute. I wish I had more occasions to wear it than death.

These lady’s were amazing. When she gave my dad the flag she spoke with such sincerity and sympathy as if she knew my grandfather. It was just amazing.

Finally got a picture with my siblings!!

Me and MirMir in our funeral attire.

Mark spoke as well. He had a different relationship with his dad than my dad did. It was very sweet.

The “Grandpa” floral arrangement. This was at the funeral home, Meldrum’s.

Moving on. . .  Thursday was lecture at school. We started electrolytes. The panic in the room hung heavy. 😂 I felt like I had a good foundation because I had to understand some of it for being a monitor tech. So hopefully I do well on the test!

Friday I had my first clinical rotation!! We were at a long term care facility. It happens to be owned by the same people that own the first LTC I worked at, Montecito. So I knew what to expect. One girl in particular wanted to paired up with me as I have worked in LTC before. I enjoyed that. She was open and receptive to learning. I am consciously aware that I am annoying at school. I try not to be, but sometimes I don’t realize it until it’s too late. I am over enthusiastic about everything I am learning. I love to learn. And when I know the answer and no one else does I am very eager to offer my knowledge. I know that’s annoying to everyone around me. It was nice on Friday to have someone want to be with me and take advantage of my knowledge instead of being off putting to people. I wish I wasn’t this way, but I don’t really know how to be “enthusiastically cool.” It is what it is. . .  Someday there will be someone that appreciates my enthusiasm toward being right all the time and having all the answers. Basically, this is me every single day at school. Even in the poop lectures!

Saturday was Miriam’s swim meat. She did great!! I love watching her perform.

The very beginning of the performance.

Right before performing.

Putting on makeup after I knoxxed her hair.

Adjusting the nose clip.
Again, the video of the performance won’t upload. File too big. I figure it out one day. . .

Here’s where we stand with our very frustrating bathroom remodel.

And this week’s post is brought to you this time by Rainbow, the black cat that blends in with all things black.
